We’re writing to you today about the United Community Family Services – Chaldean American Ladies of Charity’s Christmas Family Program. The program allows sponsors or UCFS/CALC to purchase new items for families who are unable to do so during the Christmas Season.
About the Christmas Family Program
The Christmas Family Program has been serving families in need across the metro-Detroit area since 1999. In the 18-year history of the program, thousands of children and parents have experienced the joy of Christmas through this special program.
Families are screened for participation in the program by UCFS/CALC staff. They must demonstrate a financial need and meet other criteria we’ve established.
Sponsors (individuals, families, companies, etc.) assist a family for the Christmas season. Sponsors need to provide at least one item from each family member’s “need” list. Other suggested items could include a toy from their “wish” list, grocery gift cards, bedding and towels. All items must be newly purchased. Many sponsors provide much more!
We provide sponsors with the details on the family: number of family members, each parent and child’s age, gender and size. A list of items needed and a list of items they wish for during the Christmas holiday.
Two Ways to Give
DIRECT SUPPORT
If you prefer a personal, hands on experience, you will receive a family, senior or individual profile, a need’s list and a wish list. Using their information, you do the shopping. Families range in size from small families with a single parent or grandparent with one child to families with multiple children, aunts and uncles.
Based on your ability to sponsor, we will match you with a family in need.
You could deliver the items you purchase directly to the adopted family or we could deliver to the family on your behalf! It’s your choice.
CASH DONATIONS
The Christmas Family Program welcomes cash donations! Each cash donation is combined with other gifts and benefits additional families for the Christmas holiday. Your gift of any amount will help ensure a wonderful holiday for someone in need.
If you’re interested in sponsoring a family or making a donation, please complete the attached sponsor form and send it back to us no later than December 6, 2017 so we could assign you a family. This program is one of many provided by UCFS/CALC which empowers families to achieve self-sufficiency with dignity and hope. The charity is truly a passionate advocate for all our clients and since many of them are refugees and immigrants, we also offer basic services such as food assistance, mattresses, furniture and other household items, English as a 2nd language and immigration and citizenship workshops. We service over about 5,000 families a year (50% are children) and all of our programs and services are at NO COST to them.
