Birmingham is not broken; our existing ordinances and free market forces have created a vibrant downtown — in large part due to landlords and business professionals who have creatively shaped the downtown of today within existing city zoning rules. The proposed “retail definition changes” — changes which would restrict allowable use of first-floor space in the Redline District, will be a topic of discussion at Monday’s joint meeting of the Planning Commission and City Commission. In addition, a public hearing has been set for July 12. Please consider attending the joint meeting at 8 p.m. Monday June 19 at 851 S. Eton (Agenda attached) and the July 12 Planning Commission public hearing.  Remember:  These meetings will set the tone for possible zoning changes that could permanently hurt downtown Birmingham — and your business.   Make your voice known.
