Brothers and Sisters, As most of you know, there are thousands of Chaldeans and other Christian refugees in Lebanon living in horrible conditions. For years, the majority of the adults are not allowed to work and the kids are not attending schools for various reasons. At our last Chaldean Catholic Charities (CCC) meeting with Bishop Francis, it was suggested that I go to Lebanon to assess the situation there. God willing, I plan to travel there this spring/summer. Without people’s prayers and support, we could not have achieved what we have done in the past. We need your help to raise more funds so we could continue to provide academic opportunities to those in need. Our goal is to raise $40,000 that will directly go to educational services for the displaced children of Iraq, Jordan, and Lebanon. On April 21, the TEACH organization will be hosting a fun “80s 90s event” fundraiser at Regency Manor. Their goal is to raise $40,000 to provide academic opportunities for children who otherwise may be unable to obtain an education. Such needs include assistance with supplies and other needs like refugee teacher salaries. Please see the attachment for sponsorship opportunities. Thank you and God bless! Rafed D. Wisam, a young Chaldean-American, is a lawyer and community activist running for State Representative where he grew up, the 30th District. Wisam has fought for the community over the years by (1) helping found E’rootha, which mentored our children that immigrated here during the Iraq War and worked to preserve our culture, (2) working with the US Administration and Congress to fight ISIS in Iraq, and (3) helping lead the defense against the deportation of our community members this past year. He is a Sterling Heights native and graduate of Wayne State University and the University of Michigan Law School. Wisam is running on a no-nonsense platform focused on combating corporate greed across Michigan and political corruption in Lansing. The campaign is centered upon common sense policy initiatives ranging from government accountability and campaign finance reform to pharmaceutical price gouging and innovative infrastructure and education funding. Please join him Thursday, March 15th at 6:30 PM at Sahara Banquet Hall in Sterling Heights (2390 Metro Pkwy, Sterling Heights, Michigan 48310) as he kicks off this exciting campaign! Hello – We hope you’re doing well. We’re writing to you today about the United Community Family Services – Chaldean American Ladies of Charity’s Christmas Family Program. The program allows sponsors or UCFS/CALC to purchase new items for families who are unable to do so during the Christmas Season. About the Christmas Family Program The Christmas Family Program has been serving families in need across the metro-Detroit area since 1999. In the 18-year history of the program, thousands of children and parents have experienced the joy of Christmas through this special program. Families are screened for participation in the program by UCFS/CALC staff. They must demonstrate a financial need and meet other criteria we’ve established. Sponsors (individuals, families, companies, etc.) assist a family for the Christmas season. Sponsors need to provide at least one item from each family member’s “need” list. Other suggested items could include a toy from their “wish” list, grocery gift cards, bedding and towels. All items must be newly purchased. Many sponsors provide much more! We provide sponsors with the details on the family: number of family members, each parent and child’s age, gender and size. A list of items needed and a list of items they wish for during the Christmas holiday. Two Ways to Give DIRECT SUPPORT If you prefer a personal, hands on experience, you will receive a family, senior or individual profile, a need’s list and a wish list. Using their information, you do the shopping. Families range in size from small families with a single parent or grandparent with one child to families with multiple children, aunts and uncles. Based on your ability to sponsor, we will match you with...
